Version 4.0 of Tiab Controller Software Released

18th May 2004

Tiab today released version 4.0 of their Controller Software. The new release brings many new features plus a host of refinements to existing functionality.

New functionality in version 4.0 includes:

  • Network Software-enabled, giving users access to test rigs across a corporate network or even the Internet, using either a networked PC using a standard web browser or a handheld computer with a wireless network link.
  • 2-channel oscilloscope with variable time base, ascending/descending trigger, Time or XY modes and an innovative logging feature that allows users to save scope data to disk and view it later, or email it to colleagues.
  • Trigger counter / event timer
  • Alias monitors (for monitoring DSP variables in real time)
  • Built-in logfile viewer

Refinements to existing functionality include:

  • Remote Tune on PID Controllers - actuators controlled by feedback from one transducer can tune their own set point and amplitude settings to meet a set range of parameters for a different transducer. For example, you can control an actuator using displacement feedback, with actuation meeting specified load limits.
  • Signal generators now feature two different white noise generators, plus Tiab's innovative frequency sweep mode, allowing the user to ramp to a new frequency over a set time period, pausing and adjusting frequency mid-way.
  • Continuous logging module now allows replay only, replay and logging, or logging only over a set time period - up to 24 hours.

Conway Young, Tiab's technical director, said:

"This is the most significant new release of Tiab's software to date. Since our previous major release we have invited comments from customers and independent industry experts, and have worked hard to include their requirements in our software. The result is a comprehensive, feature-rich software package the likes of which has not previously been seen in the control and testing industry.

"Tiab has a strong focus on producing solutions to today's challenges. For example, we recognise the ubiquity of the Internet in modern industry, and the huge cost and efficiency saving that the Internet brings when used effectively. As a result, we have developed software that enables users to log, monitor and even control test rig activity over the Internet or a corporate network. Other features such as the ability to save oscilloscope views and raw data in a format suitable for emailing to colleagues also exemplify our modern approach."
